Support Services

More than a school, Family Star is a comprehensive support system for children and families.

Child Services

At Family Star, we support the whole child, inside and beyond the classroom. Our integrated approach ensures that every child receives individualized support across health, development, nutrition, and social-emotional well-being, creating a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Through close collaboration between teachers, specialists, and families, we monitor each child’s growth and provide guidance, resources, and early interventions when needed. Our goal is simple: to ensure every child is healthy, supported, and ready to thrive.

Health Screenings

We provide routine hearing, vision, and dental screenings, along with referrals and care coordination. Families receive support from our Family Health & Resource Advocates, who help navigate services, provide resources, and ensure children’s individual health needs – including dietary needs – are met.

Early Intervention

At Family Star, we believe every child brings unique strengths and deserves to fully participate and thrive. Our inclusive approach supports children across all areas of development, honoring differences while fostering belonging and growth.

All children receive developmental screenings, with support for evaluation and services such as speech, occupational, or physical therapy when needed. We welcome children with IEPs and IFSPs and work closely with families and partners to ensure each child receives the support they need to succeed.

Mental Health

As a trauma-informed organization, we prioritize children’s emotional well-being through early identification, prevention, and support. We partner with families and staff to address social-emotional needs and connect families to additional community resources when needed.

Our Mental Health Specialist also works alongside educators and families to provide strategies, consultation, and referrals – supporting children both in the classroom and at home.

Nutrition

Healthy habits begin early. We provide age-appropriate meals each day – from infant feeding to fully prepared breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. Meals are served family-style, encouraging independence, social connection, and a positive relationship with nutritious foods.

At Family Star, we don’t just serve children—we partner with families.

Family Services

At Family Star, we believe caregivers are a child’s first and most important teacher. Our family services are designed to strengthen that role—building confidence, connection, and the tools families need to support their child’s growth well beyond their time with us.

Through trusted relationships and individualized support, our team partners with families to promote overall well-being, strengthen caregiver-child relationships, and support ongoing learning at home and in the community.

Family Support Services

Families have access to a range of supports designed to meet their unique needs, including:

  • Prenatal services and consultation
  • Connection to community resources and referrals
  • Personalized family goal setting
Family Engagement

We offer meaningful opportunities for caregivers to be actively involved in their child’s educational journey and our broader community.

Conferences & Home Visits

We partner closely with families through twice-yearly parent-teacher conferences, along with home visits that provide additional opportunities to share insights, set goals, and support each child’s development.

Policy Council & Leadership Opportunities

Family Star values caregiver voice and leadership. Through our Policy Council, caregivers play an active role in shaping key decisions—including program policies, hiring, and federal funding priorities—alongside community members and leadership.

Learning & Community Events

We offer ongoing opportunities for families to connect, learn, and grow together. Topics may include Montessori education, child development, health and wellness, financial literacy, school readiness, and caregiver well-being—creating a strong, supportive community for the whole family.

“The greatest sign of success for a teacher… is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’”
